We first met Xavier Brumfield and his two younger siblings, Dominic and Sallie, in 2011 through our neighborhood outreach program at Whispering Woods apartment complex. At the time, Xavier was a 4th grader and began attending our after-school tutoring club.
His early school years were marked by challenges. During the 5th and 6th grade at Robinson Elementary, Xavier struggled with anger and was suspended several times due to conflicts with his peers, issues that also impacted his academics.
By the time he reached 8th grade at Ahwahnee Middle School, he had made remarkable strides socially and academically. He became a straight-A student, a standout athlete, and was respected by his peers as a leader on and off the field.
That momentum carried him through high school, where he continued to excel both as a student and an athlete. Xavier received his first job with FACE, serving on the Rock Pile and Moving on Up teams. Additionally, he joined our summer staff, serving as a Summer Adventure Club leader in the same program he once attended as a child. After graduation, Xavier went on to attend Pacific University in Oregon, where he recently earned his degree in Environmental Science.

Xavier attributes much of his growth to the caring and supportive adults who have walked alongside him—tutors, Summer Adventure Club staff, and church youth leaders. His journey is a powerful reminder of the impact of consistent mentorship, community, and faith.
We’re proud of Xavier and all he has accomplished. He remains a valued part of our faith community and an inspiring example of perseverance and leadership.
